Day 1 – Thursday, October 23
Depart USA on overnight flights to Rome.
Day 2 – Friday, October 24
Airport meet and greet by our lovely tour guide, luggage assistance and coach transportation to The Duke Hotel, situated in the north of Rome near the magnificent gardens of the Villa Borghese. Check in to your glorious room and rest up for your first night in the Eternal City. Later, we’ll gather for a traditional welcome dinner in the hotel to get everyone acquainted and discuss the fun ahead.
Day 3 – Saturday, October 25
Full day tour of Rome by deluxe coach. In the morning, we will visit Vatican City, with a guided tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. The Vatican Museums and their immense wealth of art, resulting from centuries of papal collections, offer an extraordinary experience. Amongst others, see the great masterpieces of Renaissance art with the frescoes of the Raphael Rooms and one of Michelangelo’s greatest achievements, “The Last Judgement” in the Sistine Chapel. Following a sumptuous lunch with wine at our favorite family-style trattoria in Rome, we will take in the ancient sites of Imperial Rome: the Roman Forum, the most important archaeological area in the city and once the center of the public life; the Coliseum, the most famous monument of ancient Rome and an impressive testament to her past greatness; the church of St. Peter’s in Chains, to see Michelangelo’s Moses. Return to the hotel will be around 5:00 pm with the evening at leisure to enjoy with club friends.
Day 4 – Sunday October 26
Sunday in Rome brings many spiritual and leisure options. The day is yours to enjoy. If the Pope is in residence, you may choose to attend the 12:00 noon blessing that he delivers from his balcony in St. Peter’s Square. Another favorite is the Latin Mass in the Basilica, usually at 11:00 am. For either of these activities, be sure to arrive early to get up close. Many stores are open on Sunday and shopping is always in fashion. Our guide will be on hand to offer suggestions and advice based on your interests.
Day 5 – Monday October 27
For this day you will want to don one of your special KN Karen Neuburger® gifts and join us for a “Walk for Wellness.” Intended as a tribute to 5K breast cancer walks the world over, ours will be a variation on the theme . . . much more leisurely and with guided sightseeing stops enroute. Lasting about 3 hours, our course will take you through beautiful old streets of Rome, as well as the fashionable Via Condotti with its high-end shops: Gucci, Armani, Valentino, and Fendi. We’ll take in the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, the Piazza Navonna with a stop for some world-famous gelato, plus a Wish for the Cure Pink Penny toss in the Trevi Fountain. Don’t forget to pack your walking shoes! You’ll have the afternoon at leisure to spend as you wish. In the evening, we’ll meet for a festive, farewell dinner and afterward, a lively game of Bunco!
Day 6 – Tuesday October 28
Arrivederci Roma! Check out and transfer to Rome Airport for return flights home. Be sure to leave extra room in your suitcase for your KN goodies and other Italian souvenirs of this memorable trip!
