ARGENTINA’S PATAGONIA and Buenos Aires...Nov 11-23 200813 Days / 10 Nights
Day 1 – Depart the U.S. for Argentina. Day 2 – Buenos Aires, Argentina: Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, proceed to baggage claim and after clearing customs, transfer to our hotel for check-in. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure to explore on your own. Tonight dinner is at the hotel. (Dinner) Day 3 – Buenos Aires: This morning take a guided city morning tour. Stop at the Traditional Café Tortoni for breakfast. The Café was founded in 1858 and is the oldest coffee shop in the country. With a very rich history, it is visited by intellectuals, politicians and artists. Get acquainted with Buenos Aires during this tour highlighting the city’s major neighborhoods and attractions. Tour high lights include “Casa Rosada”; the rose-colored Presidential Residence; the Cathedral and the Cabildo (Town Hall); the “Obelisco,” a symbol of Buenos Aires city built in May 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Buenos Aires. Visit La Recoleta area, including its opulent cemetery, the resting place of Eva Perón. Buenos Aires is the birthplace and world capital of tango, a rhythm that was created at the end of the 19th century, as a fusion of European and African music. The city is full of tango houses with live orchestras and dancers. This evening enjoy dinner and a Tango show at La Ventana. (Breakfast, Dinner) Day 4 – Buenos Aires: Enjoy a day at leisure for optional tours or exploring on your own. Popularly known as the “Paris of South America”, the city of Buenos Aires is world wide known due to its strong cultural contrasts which come out in the varied architecture present in historical buildings, monuments, museums, theatres and open areas. Optional tours include Gaucho’s Day at the Pampas, Tigre and Parena River, and the San Telmo Flea Market. These optional tours are with others besides our group. Day 5 – Buenos Aires/Puerto Madryn: After breakfast transfer to the airport for our flight to Puerto Madryn. On arrival, meet our local representative and proceed on a full-day tour to Punta Tombo Penguins Reservoir, the largest penguin nesting ground in continental South America. Punta Tombo is the most important Magellan Penguins colony within Patagonia. Half a million arrive to breed. The first penguins arrive in September and stay here up to mid March but the best season to see them is November onwards, once the babies are born. One of the greatest features of this Reservation is the fact that you can literally walk among the penguins, follow them, learn their habits, see how they feed their babies, the rites of pairing, the fights for the defense of their territories, how they build their nests, and the restless walks they take to and from the sea. In other words, you can closely watch these tender little animals like you never imagined you could (the touching of penguins is strictly prohibited!).Dinner is included at a local restaurant within walking distance of our hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner) Day 6 – Puerto Madryn: This morning, depart for a full-day tour to the Peninsula Valdes, one of the finest wildlife reserves in South America. Sea lions, sea elephants, seals, guanacos, rheas and many seabirds are present in large numbers on the beaches and headlands. An optional Whale Watching boat tour will be available (weather permitting) for approximately $31. Get on board in search for a unique and unrepeatable adventure: watching the southern right whale. Amidst jumps and flukes over the water surface, learn about their habits and costumes.Return to the hotel for overnight. (Breakfast) Day 7 – Puerto Madryn/Ushuaia: This morning, transfer to the airport for our flight to Ushuaia. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax or explore. Tonight dinner is at the hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner) Day 8 – Ushuaia: Today enjoy a half-day tour of Tierra del Fuego National Park, one of the most beautiful Sub-Antarctic forests of the world, situated by Beagle Channel in the southernmost point of the American continent. Situated south of the Magellan Strait, Tierra del Fuego is the archipelago’s largest island. This National Park is the southernmost example of the Andean - Patagonian forest. It was created in 1960 and has a surface of 63.000 hectares. Return to the hotel for overnight. (Breakfast) Day 9 – Ushuaia/El Calafate: After breakfast transfer to the airport for our flight to El Calafate. On arrival, transfer to our hotel and spend the remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. (Breakfast, Dinner) Day 10 – El Calafate: After breakfast depart on a full-day tour to Perito Moreno Glacier. Only 80 km from El Calafate, the footbridge area of the Perito Moreno Glacier is an excellent site to behold the beauty and splendor of its ice blocks. This glacier is one of the few in the world still advancing, offering one of the most breathtaking views in Argentina. An ice cloak, or glacial cap, covers this Protected Area of 600,000 hectares. Among the 356 glaciers, the Perito Moreno is the most outstanding one, having a front of 5 km long and a height of over 60 meters above the level of the water. (Breakfast) Day 11 – El Calafate: Enjoy the day to relax or perhaps take an optional tour to Upsala Onelli Glacier. The Upsala Glacier forms a tongue of ice, which is 50 km. long, 10 km. wide, and many hundreds of meters thick. The excursion to visit this Glacier is one of the most entertaining ones within Glaciers National Park. It is a lacustrine journey performed aboard a modern, fully featured catamaran. You depart from El Calafate up to the Puerto Bandera pier, on Lake Argentino’s North branch, some 45 Km. Away. After navigating the North branch, you enter the Upsala branch in order to get to the very wall of Upsala Glacier. (Breakfast, Dinner) Day 12 – Buenos Aires/En route: Transfer to the airport for our return flight. (Breakfast) Day 13 – En route/U.S.: Arrive in New York this morning.
