Presidential London
Why this trip? With mild weather in February, free museums, many reasonable places to eat and amazing theater, London is a fine late winter getaway. And your extra hostess is our Club's founder, Phyllis Stoller, who has lived on and off in London for most of her life. Special events organized optionally in last year's group: a concert in St. Martin in the Fields' Church and a special walk from Westminster to the Cabinet War Rooms led by our leader. The group was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth from our bus which stopped right beside her limo. Ask ahead of time for ideas to pursue your favorite hobby. Feb. 15 Leave overnight flights from various cities to London’s Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. D and B served aboard. Feb. 16 Transfer on your own to our centrally located hotel-The Millennium Gloucester. Rest until welcome dinner tonight with other Club members. D. Our hotel is in Kensington, walkable to Hyde Park, and a tad further to The Victoria and Albert Museum and Harrods. Early arrivers can visit the Portobello Market which is open until 1PM on Saturday mornings. Feb. 17 Today we enjoy a half day tour of London in our private bus followed by a guided visit ofWestminster Abbey. Early afternoon we will stop for a traditional tea which usually includes tea, sandwiches, cakes and of course scones!. Transfer to our hotel for optional dinner and overnight. B.Tea. Feb. 18 Today we will walk to the Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington for a tour of the British collection of art, furniture, silver etc. If the Robert Morris Victorian cafeteria is open for lunch, we suggest you eat optionally there. At least take a look at it. Meet again and transfer together for a pre-theater dinner then off to a London show- a choice of tickets will be offered with your booking. Return transfer is on your own. B. D. Feb.19 Today, time to be announced, we transfer to Grosvenor Square for a half day walking tour through American history in London. From our founding fathers through Dwight Eisenhower's leadership during WWII, London was the scene of a great amount of American history. It is an easy walk from there to Phyllis' home. Tonight: Cocktails and lite fare at her house. Transfers on your own after dinner B.. D. Feb. 20 After breakfast we return to the US or stay on. Extra nights twin and single at preferential prices for Club members. Twin with breakfast: $100 and single: $190 B.
