GUATEMALA Oct 12-18, Mountains, Markets, Mayans
Day 1 Early morning departure from New York (JFK). For Miami flight, you will arrive later in the day, and will be separately transferred.. Price of transfer quoted on demand. Arrive in Guatemala City and transfer to Antigua. Antigua was the seat of the Spanish Colonial government for the Kingdom of Guatemala and was declared a World Culture Heritage site in 1979 by UNESCO. Afternoon at leisure. Day 2 Sightseeing tour of Antigua includes the Main Plaza, Cathedral, Captain’s Place, La Merced, Las Capuchinas, and San Francisco Churches. Later, visit the town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes, where typical Indian clothes are made on looms. Day 3 Enjoy a tour to the village of Chichicastenango, famous for its colorful open-air market. Visit the 400-year-old Santo Tomas Church, where the catholic and pagan rites take side by side in a truly mystic atmosphere. In the afternoon, visit the town of Panajachel and then continue to the most beautiful lake in the world, Lake Atitlan. This lake is surrounded by twelve Indian towns and protected by three towering volcanoes: Atitlan, Toliman, and San Pedro. Return to Antigua for overnight. Chichi is over 7,000 ft.in altitude. Day 4 After breakfast, drive to Guatemala City. Visit sights include Las Americas Avenue, La Reforma Avenue, Central Park, Metropolitan Cathedral, the shopping district in Zone 1, business and residential areas. After a light lunch, depart for the airport for your flight to Flores. Overnight in Tikal. Day 5 Today, tour Yaxha (Water-Green-Blue) an archaeological site situated on the shores of the beautiful Yaxha lagoon, where the famous reality show Survivor was filmed. This magnificent Mayan city was occupied for 16 centuries (600BC–900 AD) and has nine acropolis and five hundred structures. Later, take a boat ride in the lagoon to visit the unusual ceremonial ruins of Topoxte, located on one of the islands in the lake. Overnight in Tikal. Day 6 After breakfast, visit what was once one of the most powerful and grandest cities in the Maya world during the classic period: Tikal, (Lugar de Voces-Place of the Voices). Tikal was abruptly abandoned over 1000 years ago and became hidden and overgrown by the jungle. Later, visit the Mundo Perdido and the Silvanus Museum Marley, where you’ll appreciate exhibits of ceramics and jade found in the Mayan tombs. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Guatemala City for overnight. Day 7 Morning is at leisure. Late afternoon transfer to the airport for your return flight. Or continue to Honduras with our affiliate company.Note: Passengers who are traveling to Honduras will be transferred late afternoon to Copan for overnight. The tour of Honduras will commence the following day. Miami passengers will depart earlier than JFK passengers; cost of extra transfer on request.
