Depart US on July 25. This river cruise glides by some of the most intimate medieval towns and here are only a few: Magdeburg: a contrast of precious Middle-Age monuments next to modern buildings. Middle-Age churches, beautifully renovated Baroque buildings as well as buildings from Communist and modern post reunification, the historic Old Market, the Baroque city hall, famous ‘Magdeburger Reiter’ (1240 A.D.), the oldest post-Antique equestrian statue in Germany, monastery and cathedral. Meissen: city of porcelain originally made within the walls of Castle Albrechtsburg now moved to a modern factory elsewhere. You learn about the manufacture of the ‘White Gold’ and see some beautiful porcelain. Next visit the castle hill with the Gothic cathedral and Albrecht Castle. Tangerm Ynde: old Gothic town again medieval Wittenberg: with its fabulous art, market square and the birthplace of Martin Luther. Dresden: Florence of the Elbe’ Dresden has the Great Garden and the bridge ‘Blue Wonder’. From the bridge you can see the so-called Elbe castles located beautifully on the hillside of the Elbe bend, Eckberg Castle, Lingner Castle and Albrechtsberg Castle. Afterwards you explore the enchanting old town. Directly at the Theatre Square, you find the Semper Opera House. The Zwinger Palace is located next to it, considered the most famous architectural masterpiece in Dresden. Kleinzschachwitz: with its royal palaces. Prague: The imperial city of one hundred towers with its exceptional historic city centre is an absolute must-see. The world-famous sights include Baroque churches, aristocratic city palaces, lavish town houses and the dominant imperial castle, the Hradschin, to name only a few. Some of the excursions include wine tasting as this area is famous for its wines. You can purchase excursions on board or ahead of time. Or do your own thing. One of the nice bits about a river cruise is how close the ship docks to centers of towns.
Day 10 - Prague During your two free days in the elegant city of Prague, enjoy the sights with Club friends on optional excursions or just walk this charming city.(Breakfast) Day 12 – Prague/U.S.: After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the U.S. Transfer time based on group flight to JFK. Club members often get together to share taxis for other flight times. (Breakfast)
MV Dresden was built in 1991 and refurbished in 2004. The vessel is deluxe, carrying 106 passengers in 53 cabins. Original works of art can be found throughout. All cabins are similar in size and are handsomely appointed with built-in closets, desk, shower and toilet, telephone, audio entertainment center and color TV. Each sports a large picture window. A hairdryer and terry robes are available upon request. Bedding is a European-style duvet with feather pillows and eiderdowns (synthetic materials available upon request). Smoking is not allowed in the cabin or in the corridors. The vessel features six meals daily (breakfast, morning bouillon, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and midnight snack). All meals are single seating in a non-smoking dining room with five-course evening meals (up to nine courses on selected nights). Additionally, there is a bar, Panorama Restaurant, lounge, gift shop, beauty salon, library, laundry, safe deposit boxes as well as an infirmary with a qualified doctor on board. The Sun Deck has plenty of deck chairs and blankets, if needed. Captain’s Welcome and Captain’s Farewell Receptions are provided as well as nightly entertainment and dancing. There is one crew member for every 2.5 passengers providing the best crew-to-passenger ratio of any river vessel.
