Hello Everyone,
It would have been a fantastic trip if the weather had not been 95-100 degrees with about 3 times more humidity than Kansas City . The last two days finally cooled off. But all in all, despite the hot weather it was a good trip & I met lots of nice people.
I loved Quebec.-s safe & easy to make our way around. Our hotel called Manoir Victoria Hotel was in the heart of Old City, very charming & efficiently-run hotel, close to the river walkway & magnificent Frontenac.
July 1 is national day in Canada so we witnessed beautiful fireworks, many street entertainers & lots of music. Quebec is very hilly- a lot like San Francisco, so I lost weight in spite of delicious French food. I was glad I flew in the day before-gave me extra time to track around & get acquainted with the city. There were 10 people in the group, so it was easy to get to know everyone. We had a great tour guide the whole week. Our next stop was Montreal-quite a contrast to Quebec City since it is 3,000,000 people. You would have to stay at least a week to see even part of it. Getting there,we drove along the Beaupre coast dotted by 19th c. villages. We stopped to see Gothic Sainte Anne de Beaupre Basilica where supposedly many miracles have occured. We viewed Montmorency Falls-98 ft. higher than Niagra falls. We stopped at the Albert Gilles copper art factory with lovely works of art. It has been in the family since 1927.
Our hotel in Montreal was called Hotel Governeur Place Dupuis. We were within walking distance to the International Jazz Fest which Montreal is known for. Four of us took in a spectacular concert by a pop Latin-American jazz group called King Chango- along with150,000 other people. Notre Dame Basilica was beautiful and a highlight of our tour. That night we went back to the Basilica & heard a concert by the Montreal Symphony orchestra with a wonderful suprano named Janice Chandler.
Our last 2 days we stayed at elegant Manoir Richelieu. It had everything - a spa, casino, tennis, golf horse-back riding, a great hiking trail & more. I did a great hike in the woods with two others in our group & just relaxed. I'm looking forward to another trip with the Women's Travel Club.
